Our History

A Family Operation
Our roots go back to 1936 when S. Quay Smith started his insurance and real estate agency in the city of Brawley. His son Sherman M. Smith later joined and with partner Clair W. Mitchell, continued to build the agency with the addition of several hundred clients.

In 1971, Kevin C. Smith, Sherman's son, joined the agency and the stage was set to move the Company to the next level. In 1988 Greg Smith joined his father and brother creating a true family tradition. Since then, the business has expanded outside the borders of Imperial County and serves thousands of clients throughout the Desert Southwest. In 1995 Smith-Mitchell merged with Kandal Insurance Agency. With his 25 years of experience Ed Kandal enabled us to have an edge on the competition which is still seen today in Smith-Kandal Insurance & Real Estate.
